Echoes of Elsewhere

Not all spells are cast with wands. Some take the shape of stories shared softly across time and tea. Here you will find musings from the mossy paths and ancient spaces of The WyldeWoode.

The Quiet Knowing We Forget to Trust

by Claire Nelson

The Quiet Knowing We Forget to Trust

There is a voice within each of us that speaks softly. It does not demand attention. It does not argue. It does not raise itself above the noise of the world. Instead, it waits, patient, steady, and unchanged, for the moment we are still enough to hear it. Unfortunately, many of us learn, over time, to ignore it. We are taught to seek certainty outside ourselves. To ask for permission. To look to logic, to reason, to proof. And while these things have their place, there is another form of knowing that lives beneath them. One that does not arrive as words, but as feeling. It is the pause before a decision. The pull toward something you cannot yet explain. The sense that a certain path is yours to follow, even when it makes little sense to anyone else but you. This knowing does not always lead us to where we expect to go. In truth, it rarely does. It leads us to where we need to grow. Sometimes it leads us away from what is familiar. Sometimes it asks us to begin again. Sometimes it asks only that we trust, without understanding why. There have been moments in my own life when this quiet voice was the only thing left. When everything else felt uncertain, it remained. Not loud. Not forceful. Simply present. It was not always easy to trust. Doubt has a way of creeping in, especially in a world that values certainty above all else. And I will admit that it was having those doubts that took me so long to get here.  But time has shown me that this knowing does not exist to mislead. It exists to guide, gently, persistently, and always toward something truer. And it keeps going, even though you choose to ignore it. It keeps going until you recognise it for what it is. The WyldeWoode itself began as such a feeling. Not as a plan, but as a quiet certainty that something meaningful was waiting just beyond the edges of what I could see. It did not reveal itself all at once. It unfolded slowly, step by step, as all true things do. This knowing lives in all of us. It lives in the moments when you feel drawn to something without knowing why. In the things that stir your heart without explanation. In the paths that call to you, even when they seem to appear from nowhere. It asks only one thing in return. That you listen… And perhaps, in listening, you may begin to remember that you have always known the way. Walk gently, Claire.

Why the Faeries Never Truly Left Us

by Claire Nelson

Why the Faeries Never Truly Left Us

There was a time when belief in the Faeries was not considered unusual. They were spoken of plainly, woven into daily life as naturally as the weather and the seasons. Farmers left small offerings at the edges of their fields. Doors were built with care, so as not to offend unseen passersby. Certain places were treated with quiet respect, ancient trees, still pools of water, rings of stone and grass and mushrooms, where the air itself seemed to pause. These were not acts of superstition, but of relationship. Across Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia, and beyond, the Faeries were understood not as inventions, but as neighbours of a different kind. Not always seen, but often felt. Not always understood, but rarely dismissed. Over time, though, the world grew louder. The old ways gave way to progress. Forests were cleared. Electric light replaced firelight. The pace of life quickened, and with it came a different way of seeing, one that valued what could be measured, proven, and explained. The quiet spaces where the Faeries had once been noticed grew fewer, and belief itself was gently folded away, like an heirloom placed in storage. But something curious remained. Even now, people still speak of moments they cannot quite explain. A sudden sense of presence in an empty place. A path that seemed to reveal itself just when it was needed. The feeling of being gently guided, or quietly warned. Small coincidences that arrive with such precision they feel less like accidents and more like conversation. Children, especially, do not question these things. They accept wonder easily. They speak to unseen companions, notice things adults have learned to overlook, and move through the world with a kind of openness that does not demand proof. Today, too many adults have lost that acceptance of wonder, their Inner Child has been locked away, and their adult logic now demands that proof. I believe it is not that the Faeries left, it is that we learned to stop looking. Or, perhaps more truthfully, we learned to stop listening. The old stories have always served as bridges, reminders that the world is larger, deeper, and more alive than it sometimes appears. Whether one understands the Faeries as beings, as symbols, or simply as expressions of nature’s mystery, their presence continues to linger in the quiet places. In the wind moving through leaves. In the hush of early morning. In the instinct that tells us to pause, to notice, to feel. The WyldeWoode exists as a small act of remembering. Not to persuade, nor to convince, but to honour the possibility that not everything meaningful can be seen outright. That some things reveal themselves only to those willing to slow down, to wander without urgency, to remember their Inner Child, and to remain open to wonder. So, perhaps the Faeries never left at all. Perhaps they have simply been waiting, patiently, hoping as they always have, that one day we will remember them. Walk gently, Claire.

You Have Found Your Way Here

by Claire Nelson

You Have Found Your Way Here

You Have Found Your Way Here Like most things of quiet importance, The WyldeWoode began not as a plan, but as a feeling, a dream that lingered patiently until I was ready to recognise it. For much of my life, I was busy walking the well-worn paths before me. I grew up, married, raised six beautiful children, and lived the many chapters life offered. But as time went on, and after enduring a deep unravelling that sometimes reshapes us, I found myself standing in unfamiliar territory. Something essential was missing. I couldn’t name it, I only felt its absence. It was during this time, in a small esoteric shop called Eclectic Dreams in the small town where I lived, that something within me quietly stirred. Through the kindness, wisdom, and gentle encouragement of the women I met there, I began to rediscover a way of seeing that I had not realised I had lost. What began as curiosity slowly deepened into something more enduring, a love of the old stories, the unseen threads that weave through the natural world, and the quiet presence of wonder itself. I do not claim certainty about such things. I only know that there have been moments, small, unassuming, and easily dismissed, that felt like more than coincidence. Moments of guidance. Moments of reassurance. Moments of quiet knowing. People across the world hold different beliefs about what moves beside us and beyond us. Some call it God. Some call it the Universe. Some feel it in nature itself. For me, that presence has often made itself known through the language of the forest, through intuition, through symbols, and through the enduring stories of the Fae and the ancient places they are said to inhabit. The WyldeWoode was born from that remembering. What began as a simple idea became a small market stall, and from there, slowly and naturally, grew into the space you see here today. It is a place shaped not only by my own path, but by the unwavering love and support of family and friends who believed in this dream alongside me. The WyldeWoode is not a destination so much as an invitation. Here you will find books, cards, journals, and curious things, each chosen with care, each carrying its own quiet story. This space will continue to evolve, as all living things do. New paths will appear. Others may fade. Such is the nature of all true forests. You are welcome here. Walk gently. Wander slowly. And see what you may find waiting for you. Claire.
